estamos bailando

The next couple (or few) posts (including this one) will be a little out of order. I’ve yet to really (or at all) write up the museums we visited this past Saturday, so I’ll be working on that a bit tomorrow. Although now the expectation (from the blo-dience [haha, blog audience] in my head) will be a post of epic proportions, and I can promise you that it will not be. I can promise you a hamburger and a hint of fire.

Figured I’d write a quick update while I have the computer all to myself. The Boy is completely conked out as a result of massive exhaustion and headache. More on this in a moment.

Today, we decided to go to the Museo de las Momias (or Museum of Mummies). Basically, there was a system of catacombs just outside of Guanajuato a long time ago. People interred in these cats became mummified somehow (More on the history here – look under the Attractions section). The bodies are very, very well preserved (skin, bones, teeth, and creepiest of all, eyelashes – interestingly, genitals do not mummify well). The walk-through was fairly short, but disturbing (several dead babies and dead baby pictures). The Boy took plenty of pictures of all the mummies, so I suppose those will be going up on his flickr in the near future. I don’t think I’ll update my flickr until I get home.

the hills are alive

I can’t believe that almost an entire week in Guanajuato has already passed. My Spanish is steadily improving; it definitely helps that everyone is so nice and friendly here. They are also immensely amused while I scrabble through my book of useful Spanish words and phrases or the Boy’s dictionary (I finally got one of my own). A few nights ago, I wanted to buy some Q-tips, and… Well, you really have to laugh at yourself when you’re standing in a pharmacy in a foreign country repeating the word “cotton” and miming cleaning out your ears. It was fun. :)
