05. Soulless by Gail Carriger
This book is awesome – it is a fantasy steampunk supernatural Victorian romance novel full of witty banter, hilarious turns of phrase, and deadly parasols (okay, one deadly parasol). The heroine of the story is Miss Alexia Tarabotti, a resilient, outspoken, well-bred lady who happens to have no soul (hence the title). She ends up getting mixed up in some sketchy business involving vampires, werewolves, and mysterious disappearances. The characters are great – pretty much each side/minor character is worthy of his/her own story. I laughed out loud repeatedly. In short, don’t be turned off by the romance sub-genre categorization, and go pick up this book.
